Current contents of the Polish Cinema Database includes information on the motion pictures made in Poland after the World War II (that is after 1947) to the present. Some of the films made by Polish directors abroad are also included. Overall, for the opening of the database to the public, the index contains over 1,000 film titles; for over 300 of them we have also provided more detailed descriptions. Majority of these movies were made for the big screen; only a few were made for television. We plan, however, to include tv films in the future, as well as short- and medium- length films in order to make this database as comprehensive as possible.
The Polish Cinema Database was developed as a volunteer effort and we hope that with time it will expand with information contributions arriving from the Internet community in Poland and abroad. We cannot, however, guarantee full accuracy of the data contained in the database; we provide it "as is" with the assurance that is as accurate as we were able to establish.
We have consciously chosen English as the primary language of the database, hoping that it will expand its usability for those on the Internet not knowing any Polish, and yet interested in Polish culture, and Polish cinema in particular. That does not mean that information in Polish is excluded - on the contrary, but it is on our future agenda. When using the database it is worth remembering that the diacritical marks, characterictic for Polish language (so called "ogonki") are not present, and therefore some of the names may be distorted.
